you can take up stu's offer with buying his ECU just take it to the dealer and all you would probably have to pay is 50 quid for them to fit it and give you certificate probably not even that
i think check with your dealer 1st Last edited by Wideboy; 14-07-07 at 11:34 PM. |

There IS NO LEGAL requirement to have it done by a dealer or to have the certificate.
Any proof of the restriction is enough, and all that is required. Even if that is to have the ECU out and shown t oa cop at the side of the road with the diffferent serial number on it. The reason FI and dealers say otherwise is to keep them in business and to rip you off!! end of story! |

Bennetts didn't want to see a certificate from me, the guy on the phone said "theres so many bikes sold as restricted with no cert that we don't bother, but if you prang it, we will send an engineer out to check"
To make doubly sure, I rang the local cop shop, who checked on their legal database and he couldn't find any law saying you must hand over all your money to FI international, he also said, if in doubt we can dyno you or physically check. IMHO, FI int are a bunch of robbing gits, their literature actually implies there is a law saying you must have a sticker on the frame of your bike to say that it is restricted with one of their kits, smells like the back end of a bull to me. Obviously there isn't a law about how you decorate your bike, and they enjoy charging £100 or so for a bit of tin plate and a few washers, so long as it comes with a bit of paper. Anyone who has better info than me on this, tell me what law mandates it and I'll go get the suzuki kit fitted by a dealer tomorrow. Chris |

I have asked the local bike cops who visit Rivington Barn. There is no legal requirement for a certificate that your bike is restricted < 33BHP if you are on a restricted licence. The legal requirement is that your bike IS resticted <33BHP if you are on a restricted licence. The police do not have a database of restricted bikes - that is myth. As stated above this whole restricted thingy is a myth perpetuated by the people who stand to make money from selling such products and services to people who do not know any better or lack the skills to restrict their own bbike.
When Diane moved from her 125 to a 600 divy the one she bought was already restricted but not sold as such. Soon as I got into 2nd gear riding it home , I knew it was restricted so that saved us a few quid. I popped the backs off the carbs and they all had blocks of plastic behind the slides stopping them opening more than 1/4 (about 50p of Nylotron all told) Her insurance company did not ask for anything. Fact of the matter is - if anything goes wrong the police or an insurance investigator can strip the back off a carb in less than 30 minutes and will find out that it is restricted and therefore she is legal. |

Not being rude or anything but how can you ride that without pasing your test? You have to be 17 to pass, and you say thats 2 weeks away. So unless you are passing on your 17th Birthday, then yes its legal once you have passed. Or are you riding on it with L plates? Sorry to sound like a copper, but you have the SV already which sounds OTT. ![]() |
