Chris...you say the bike fell over? The engine stopped when it hit the deck right? The problem has been there since that point? If you get sparks from the batt' but not when the engine is cranked means something may have had a jolt when the bike fell like in the timing department??? Is it possible for a component in the alternator to move thereby altering the spark timing? There is a key which fits into the alternator for retarding the timing, could this have moved?

Just seems odd to me that it only gives problems when cranked!

The woodruff key can't move as its held in the keyways, but that area is what I'm suspecting, i.e the pulse coil

Riiight.

ICU (and spare) are confirmed good courtesy of dizzyblonde and 'im indoors.

Coils also looking to be good.

Another stator unit (trigger coil and alternator) should be on the way, so we shall see.

Possible dead battery? (12.5v oc shown)

Good luck with the trigger coil (pulse coil that is to me). Battery should be fine if reading 12.5 volts. If the battery was weak during cranking, then the spark wouldnt be produced. I have had this numerous times with bikes, that if the battery has good juice (power) to turn the engine over but not enough to produce a spark as well.

Could well be, noticed that with the clocks powered and one indicator flashing that voltage dropped to about 12.3v which doesn't seem good.

Aaaargh!!

Ready to set this thing on fire.

Right a spare pulse coil is fitted, theres still no spark even with 2 batteries (both have enough juice to crank the bike fine) connected up.

I'm totally out of ideas, going to fit yet another extra earth to the engine (already got an extra one to the frame) and see what happens.

Help!

Chris

It lives!

Turned out to be an earth from the ICU that goes up to the ignition switch, the wire was broken right below the switch.

Gawd it sounds good! (with no can hehe)
