I got pulled over a few months back by a copper for over taking an ambulance with his blues and two's on, and this was on the motorway when he was in the middle lane and i was in the fast lane so i was not obstructing him in any way. So if you do it just don't let the police see you.

If his lights are off, its just like any other road vehicle, so you can legally overtake. An no, they don't have speed cameras on them, the ambulance staff have other stuff to deal with!

I "got stuck" behind an ambulance that was on a call (lights & sirens) on my way home from work earlier this week actually. I pulled in to let him past and then just followed him all the way down the A537.

I say "stuck" because although I could have overtaken him, I didn't want to impede him, and it wasn't really quite that bad because, if anyone knows the A537 it's a single-lane carriageway and there's not a lot of places to overtake safely so I slotted in behind him and just "slip-streamed" past all the cars that probably wouldn't have pulled over quite so far for ME (but then I don't have blue flashing lights, LOUD sirens and the word "ECNALUBMA" written across the front of my vehicle! LOL).

Shame his emergency wasn't further up the M6 cos it was back to waiting behind "I own the outside lane" to$$ers over the Thirwall Viaduct!!

When the traffic is bad, and I can see an ambelance coming behined me, i try to clear the way in front to give him an easier path behined me Usually people looking in mirrors may see my headlights, and see the blues coming up after me.

As soon as it gets closer though, I pull over and let them straight past. I don't impeed their driving in any way.

i followed a tafpol volvo down the A30 on my way to lands end, not with his lights on though - nice steady indicated 85-90mph all the way. after about 15mins he lit up and shot off, didn't bother following him, got a few miles down the road and saw him parked up and thought i was in for it but nothing materialised...

have overtaken an ambulance, in my yoof, doing 30 in a 40 limit, without exceeding said limit, what a nobber

No, ambulances don't have speed cameras on. Why would they?

Cool Re: quick speeding Q

Speed cameras on board ambulances - Absolutely not!
Operating mobile speed cameras is a complicated legal process where the vehicle has to be parked and set up correctly. There are no such devices on ambulances that could record, for legal purposes, your speed whilst both vehicles are moving.
