arr right thanks for that, is there anyway of upping the signal strength? it wont reach downstairs?

Not sure, ours is in the same room as our laptops are so I've never needed to.

How much range are they suspose to have?

I've the netgear DG834G v2 downstairs direct connection with PC and then wireless my laptop and the the kids 2 Pc's up stairs. only probablem so far is my sons Belkin wireless card seams to disable itself when you turn the pc off, when you turn it back on again you have to re-connect it via the 128 bit encyption password thingy...

my neighbour has the netgear DG834 the same as me and his signal is stronger than mine in my lounge?

my dad also has the same netgear one and his laptop works down the bottom of his garden? maybe the wii console needs a very strong signal to work.

Alot the trouble with signal strength is what else you have in the building that the wireless transmitter is in. Is there alot of metal or electrical cable between you and the router etc etc. We have trouble in some of our trade counters where theres so much metal in the buildings it reduces the signal strength on the wireless LAN thats installed.

You can get some software somewhere to help you find the best place to put your router have a google around the internet for it.

Thats what your trouble is move the router away from the phone base station or vice versa.

You need to look at the antennae design. You may find that the horizontal angle does not allow for max signal from upstairs to down.

Graphs would normally show two patterns, the radial signal and a horizontal signal with deviation from the horizontal.
