Man this is a popular thread... sorry if i have upset people as it seems i have some .

BUT i think people seem to think im trying to get rid of the S model NO!

What i was figuring is that the SV as an engine and chassis is a VERY nice bike, but it is somewhat let down by its bouncers and stoppers.

My main idea was to make a bike with 'enough' usable power (i.e. midrange Vee twin power) and the handling of the Gixxer range. I think it would do well because with the little twin you can thrash it and not worry too much about going light speed and losing your licence, not like on an IL4 where if you thrash it... Oh dear licence gone. Also i think its the corners which are the better bits and naturally Twins seem better in corners and deffo out of em!

Someone said go for a Ducati... heh Yea if your paying mate! How much for servicing and then there is the buying of the bike and oh the spares. No thanks Ducati or Susuki... Susuki!

Keep flamming me

p.s. Dont you think the forks and brakes would be easy... They are on the gixxer range its not really like they have to manufacture something from new! I think the most expensive bit would be a new gixxer style swing arm. So under £5000 i think is an easy one. (i mean street triple only £5300!!!! - that might be incompetition with an SVR though :S)

One last point, i also read people saying would i buy one no id just buy a second had Gixxer... But then in the same post say oh im buying new shock and fork internals and might get decent pads... that cant cost far off of £500 there, if not more!

Disagreed !! Cornering is all about the rider, not the bike. I passed a guy on a 999 one day on my SV he coudlnt corner. But I've been outridden by people on SV's on my GSXR, because they ride better than I do or they have better knowledge of the road than I do.

Urban myth.

Liz has a 749 parts are about the same as the Suzuki ( the cam belt set was I think £99 for the parts when we had it done. ) Edit - when we looked on ebay we found the fairings etc were less money than the equivalent SV items to...

The service interval is a little longer than the SV

When we took the Duke for Service the hourly rate in the workshop was less than the hourly rate in my local Suzuki dealer that look after my GSXR was.

She paid £5699 for a 2004 plate 749S with 3000 odd miles on it, which is £1000 more than a K6 SV would have been at the time... thats a lot of extra bike for £1000 on top of the SV dont you think ?

Sorry if it seems that way, I'm not meaning to come across like that apologies if thats what it seems like.

Its just this subject comes up alot and I think the mods you want to make would price the SV out of its target market. The best thing about it is that its cheap to buy run and insure and its huge fun to ride. Chucking all that extra stuff at it is going to put the price up and its one of the best things about the bike.
