I know for a fact that the police used to treat this sort of crime as serious in the 60's and 70's.. WTF has happened to this country over the years? Seems like the police exist to protect the corporations. Joe Public doesn't seem to get a look in.

Think you might find that their performance goals include more paperwork, more crimes that can be committed, more sophisticated law breakers, more people able to buy the things that lawbreakers want to steal, so more crime and maybe less police officers doing 'real' wor than there were in the 60's and 70's.

Can't be sure, but it's just a guess.

I have to admit, until last month, this was my experience of and attitude towards the police.

When my garage was broken in and £400+ worth of tools were stolen, they sent someone out the following morning to check for fingerprints. They were respectful and concerned during the course of the investigation and kept me updated without me having to chase them. They managed to get a known fingerprint and even ensured the culprit was spending Christmas behind bars, which made me feel a lot happier, not to mention feeling more secure about the garage.

Bah wish they had done that with mine.

When my bike was dropped during an attempted theft they got a known print off it but because I didn't see the guy and couldn't attend an identity parade they dropped the case *sigh*

Sounds like you were lucky mate. I've had two radios nicked from cars parked in my drive. Also had my daughter's ex boyfriend lob a stone slab through my front window one christmas eve. When I reported the first radio taken, the police seemed totally unconcerned and told me that I had to take the car to some centre in Port Talbot to get it dusted for prints. I was left in no doubt that it would probably be a waste of everyone's time. The second time I didn't even bother reporting it. When I reported the window incident they asked us if we wanted counselling as victims of crime or something like that. Didn't even go to see the guy who I suggested might have done it.

I agree with all of that and I'm sure you have guessed correctly.
