I like Visordown, it's very different from this forum though... I use hte two for different things, unless you're in the in gang on VD it's not a community, just a resource, I think. You need to have your bull**** detectors turned up a little higher too, far too many 2nd hand opinions, far too many internet experts (like a while back they had a guy telling our own SV650Racer how Suzuki warranties work, for instance). But you get a very wide spread of riders and opinion, which is good.

I think it's sort of like small town vs big city.

I too go VD for a wider view, there are some friendly people on there too, people who I've met up with at track days, people who have sent me their still in date Swiss motorway pass etc. As with all forums you 've got to have your BS alarm on, but get into the more specific forums and it's pretty useful.

By the way I saw 165 mph on my Sv the other day, how fast does your SV go?

'bout 163, but I am bigger than you, so loose a few mph.

Think its Roadcraft available at all good bookshops and they are all up to RoSPA gold(?) standard

Just popped over there to see what the fuss was about, and bumped into the survival skills subforum. Interesting reading, but I'm not going back without getting a pair of asbestos pants for the IAM threads.

Hmm. Well, I had been thinking since I passed my test that I'd do advanced training (why not? It can only help) and thought I might as well join the IAM. Even more so since I sent the bike down the road on its own.. I want to be a better rider, I don't want to be a textbook rider, from what you're saying, I'd be better off going for a one to one with a trainer here than I would be joining the IAM?

Oh, I've had a few wanderings around visordown, didn't think too much. Nothing like the banter or information or people on here

VD forum seems to be much harder to navigate since it has been rehashed. It seems to be a bit of a backwards move.

Not sure how to explain this but everybody is a textbook rider! If I write down my way of riding and you like it and go by it then you have become a textbook rider......so I think this idea of being a textbook rider is a bit OTT.

The IAM will suggest to you the same way of riding as the police force riders follow. Obviously with adherence to speed limits. If you choose to go for the test then you will obviously have to follow the rules that are already in Roadcraft! There is no additional info it's just that you get someone to point them out to you

End of the day you can take the test, pass and then decide to forget the whole thing. It's up to you what you deem quality info for riding and keep it or ditch it.

You do get 1-2-1 rides anyway with the IAM and it's only ROSPA that is the other recognised group for advanced riding. Anybody else is just a mate who has more experience than you and can point out a couple of things.

I went to the IAM and along with a few pointers from experienced riders I improved. Nobody can open your head put the info in and then off you go riding like Rossi

Definately agree it's a total pain in the rectum. Preferred the old version.
