They are just making a big deal out of it to make the strike look bad. Every year they have various "Shutdowns" for repair work.. usually 2-3 weeks for the Cracker unit that makes the fuel, nobody knows anything about them though till they fire the plant up and the sky turns orange again.
Glad i dont work there anymore
Now the plant is shut down & presumably cooling, will they bring forward any maintenance to avoid later shutdowns?

Nope.. Coz they are all out on strike, No lazy sod's in the control rooms.. no permits to go set fire to things. (not that i enjoyed fire tenders appearing where i was welding)
Takes months to organise all the new pipework and other stuff that gets installed, 90% of all the shutdown work is carried out by us "subbies". Worked in BP/Innovene for 9 years with a contract pipework company, and used to love getting hired out to the BP's own workshop.. was like being on holiday working for them!

Well, we had no problem getting fuel yesterday anywhere. No big queues, no panic. Maybe most people are just being sensible this time and not falling for media hysteria.

I saw massive queues at Tesco`s in Llandudno Junction , and thought "blow that I`ll fill up elsewhere" ..... that`s when I realised why the queues were so bad , I went to Esso only to find it had been knocked down this week ................... DOH!!!!!

One full tank (now £70) gets me to work twice.

Good job I ain't going. But the robbing gits have been hiking up the prices whenever Asda has run out.
