A few months ago I did actually consider downsizing & began looking at the 800 GS.

However, finding out that an acquaintance had bought one and a quick phone call convinced me of what I'd read in the press; that whilst it's a very good bike - it definitely isn't the on-road mile-muncher that its big brothers are. Off-road I'm told it's actually better than the 1200's because it's that much lighter, etc. But seeing as off-road riding is not likely to feature heavily in my life I decided against.
Also, it doesn't quite have the same look as the big ones - I really do like the In-Your-Face-King-Of-The-World look and feel of the 1200's.

But, if you decide it's for you then ENJOY !!

P.S. Have you considered a 1200 ? BMW now do a lowered suspension option along with lower seat options too. I don't know what height you are but the lady who sold me my new bike stands 5'6" and rides a GS 1200 every day as her company bike.

I've always liked the Adventure version - but didn't have the extra money when I bought the GS - and I wasn't sure how good it would be for road use; but, with the pay rise i just received (long overdue I might add !!) I can now afford one.

I was looking to swap my 06 GS for the new improved 08 GS - but, when I looked at the price difference against the GS Adventure (this time I was going to pay extra for wire wheels as opposed to the standard alloys anyway) it was less than a grand - so having had a test ride around the back lanes of Kent on Saturday I decided that its as good (if a little bit heavier round corners because of the 33l tank) as the GS on the road - so I went back to the dealer yesterday, negotiated what I think is a good deal & bought it !!
Ah, but have you built your own lightsaber yet?

Quote of the month Mr. Vox.

A 1200GS(A) is featuring heavily in the list of bikes I will be looking at when the S3 goes (its currently just dead and resting...). Loverly machines.

But the used price is actually what (partially at least) justifies the high new purchase price isn't it ?

I mean, I knew when I bought my GS in 2006 that I wasn't going to lose truck loads of money on it when it was time to PX / sell.

My mate has one and absolutely loves it. My dad took one out for a test ride when thinking about chopping his Pan in for one, but couldnt get away with the boxxer engine.

I like em, ugly looking bike, now more short person friendly with a very low seat height. I could easily get my feet down. Too expensive for me though at present. I baulk at £5k price tags never mind £7k
