+ 1

Running is good, I will do a minimum of two miles a day, it will help get rid of any "love handles" which sit-ups won't. Try basic sit-ups and push-ups and then progress on to elevated sit-ups and push-ups. A session with some weights is good too, laying on a bench with your arms out and bringing them up to your chest is very good.

Most importantly, eat right.

Well I'll be at the gym tonight, so I'll see how it goes.

not sure if this has been mentioned, I only read the 1st 2 pages. But actaully doing high weight resistance work is more effective and shifting weight as it uses more calories than jogging does. Also muscle needs more fuel, so you are helping yourself out by increasing muscle mass by doing resistance work.

But TBH any regular and structured resistance work or cardio work will bring good return very quickly.

Get yourself a skipping rope and an i-pod.

Skip for a song and every time you mess up do 10 push ups, then next time do 15 sit ups. Vary between shoulder width, wide arm and close together with your hands with the push ups to work your triceps, and pectoral bridge. Vary between sit ups and knees to chest (sit on the floor, lift your legs an inch from the ground and then bring your knees into your chest) this way you work both your lower and upper abs.

Have a couple of minutes rest between songs and then go again. See if you can go for an extra song every week.

Good luck,

if you can afford it, get a personal trainer. Their job is 50% technical know-how and 50% motivation, but you'll get more out of a session with one than on your own. Go to www.nrpt.co.uk and you can find a local one.

If you wanna look good, the guys are right, the fat has to go. My brother in law is much more muscular than me but we look different because I'm a stick and he never will be while there's a hole in his ****. Media photos are bad for blokes too in this respect. My missus has had to shift a load of weight and for her the Slimming World diet seems to be the magic bullet. No idea why it works though.

Final one from me is, whatever you do, don't skim on the core exercises, youuse these muscles more or less all the time. Swiss ball is good, perhaps yoga/pilates if you can stand it. Go to the Mayo clininc web site and look up core exercises, there is some good stuff there too.

Good luck! you'll be beating the birds off with a ****ty stick soon I'm sure!
