Im not saying accidents like this dont happen, Im saying that a concoction of random accidents in a graphic vid do nothing to educate ppl oif the dangers of driving. We all know the dangers of living, and driving and riding, its just seems rediculous..

its like an add that says dont drink water you might choke and die..

imo...

Randon? fatal acciedents happen everyday it's a fact, once again I doubt they hard to work to had to fine example to make that film, and whilst you maybe right to a degree on it's effectiveness, it may well save a life or two and certainly won't take any.

Cheers Mark

A few thoughts ...

We all know the dangers to our health of smoking. Most smokers have seen the gruesome images of tarred lungs, gangrenous feet, ulcerated tongues. I think some of these images are on fag packets now.

So why do some people still smoke?

Simply because scare tactics don't work. When trying to change a complex set of behaviours, whethers it's smoking, poor driving or head in the clouds walking, you need complex methods. Telling people NOT to do something without telling them TO DO something is virtually worthless.

TBH our re-education, speed awareness courses are probably much more effective than a small scale horror movie

That was..............very, very good. I guess that would never be shown in the Uk as it's far too realistic.

I'll tell you what's really good about this thread (I was beginning to wonder whether it was a good idea)

The comments made by everyone, whatever the viewpoint and opinion, have all been pretty measured and considered, so if nothing else the clip has given everyone something to think about and contemplate, and I bet very few will simply brush it off as totally pointless. Result, I reckon.

I understand what you are saying, and on the subject of re-education completely agree. Scare tactics on their own don´t work, however they can act as an additional reason to act.

For example no one can quit smoking without wanting to. Wanting to quit, and then seeing the images on your fag packets give you an additional incentive each time to carry on not smoking.

If you’re an idiot who doesn’t care one way or the other about bad driving, then this video, or any other methods, really aren’t going to be very impacting on their own.

However if it were to be used alongside other methods, then I feel it would be a highly effective message.

I thought it was good. The overwhelming feeling that I got as a driver was of the incredible guilt that I would feel if I had caused any one of these accidents. Some of them were bad luck and caused by someone taking a little less care than usual - but even so it does make you think that even a small accident could have tragic consiquences (parent hit by car that was rear ended) - something I'd not thought about before.

Scare tactics may not work on everyone, but anyone with any sense and an ounce of concience must be moved by these sorts of clips. Smoking is slightly different in that the passive effects of smoking are very hard to measure and see - here the effects on others are extremely graphic and instant - even if you do not care about your own safety, most people would care about someone elses in such circumstances.

Didn't like it. Made me feel sick, only got half way through. Very effective mind, was going out for a drive this afternoon which I no longer fancy.
Maybe clips like these should be shown to new/learning drivers - show them the reality of how their actions can affect others? Would have done me some good anyway.

Reading some of the replies has made me think that this site has turned into a bit of a nanny state. Every apologising before, during and after they write something. Jeez peeps, what's going on? It's only the 'tinterweb.

Cos people occasionally get the wrong end of the stick, things come across completely different from what they should and I always have a guilty conscience
