My bosses aren't slavedrivers, but we are a small company relatively speaking. Also, one staff member in each of the small branches, means one of your team have to cover if you are off-and therefore people are reluctant to do that, as it means a colleague coming in on their day off. I think that's a good thing, frankly.

Being the apprentice, I'm quite lucky with my holiday/sick leave as I'm not really that important to the daily running of the business.

I do however hate phoning in sick, but whenever I have they are understanding and have never complained. I don't get paid for days i take sick, but can't have everything eh.

I work in an operating theatre for the NHS. My boss is great when you have time off sick. Unfortunately being such a large unit, there are a lot of people who take the p!ss! It is soo easy to play the system and create an illness wether it be stress or a bad back, these are impossible to prove and when you can get 6 months sick on full pay, there are people who will take advantage. .
I'm not saying everyone who has a bad back, or has stress is lying, far from it. but when someone who you work with is on the sick with a bad back and you see photo's of them on holiday with full scuba gear on it
p!sses you off a bit to say the least. Nothing seems to be done about it and this makes the whole situation worse as others know they can get away with it.
Rant over

my boss or shall i say ex boss, was a tosser and this is the sort of thing he did. I took one day off because i was in a bike accident and got shouted at the next day for taking the day off, o and i phoned in before starting time like it states in the employee handbook. Every bad thing written in here is exactly what my boss was like. I think people call it little man syndrome, where they get too big for there own company if you het what i mean, they dont give a crap about there employee's welfare, health and safty - whats that????

you can probably gather what he was like, anyway i managed to buy a bike wih the wages he payed me so im happy o and it payed for my bike test.

I left on friday and told him to shuv his job because he was an ass hole.

I was in the process of joining the RAF and just had my first interview. i now have my fitness and medical tomorrow and now because i have no job the carrers office are going to see if they can find me a quicker placement than they said the first time i went in.
