Never do anything in bed apart from Sleep and have Sex. I had a friend who suffered from Fybramialga(sp?) and her mental and physical well being depended on her getting a good nights sleep.
The main thing the doctors told her was to not use her bed except for sleeping and for sex, the reason was that when you do other activities like watching Tv reading a book etc your brain starts to think your bed is an active place and you find it harder to fall asleep.

I also found that forcing myself to go to bed early (again took time) eventually helped. My 'natural' tendency, i.e. what I'd do if I had no alam clock or job to go to, would be to stay awak until 2,3,4am and sleep until about 11am. Now I'm dozing off by 10pm most nights, pretty pathetic but I do feel better for it! Ban anything electrical other than an alarm clock from your bedroom - no TV, PC etc - nothing! |

"All I'm going to use this bed for is sleeping, eating, and maybe building a little fort"
![]() Doctor prescribed sleep tabs are good. I mean scary good, too good. Very short courses only; I don't think I've got a particularly addictive personality (that said I smoke and drink so...) but it's easy to see how one can become dependent upon them. But they do the job and if it's a case of just needing a hand sleeping for a week then perhaps that'll get you back on track. I really don't like the idea of drugs either, I guess no-one really does, but half of what everyone suggests, half of the old wives tales - it all boils down to drugs in the end - reduce caffiene, spot of alcohol, release some endorphins; all of these will work to some extent and normally that's all that's needed - if it doesn't then perhaps it's worth a small course of other drugs. That said, personally I've found them on the very odd occasions where I've taken them to pretty much zombify me for the first half of the following day - not so bad if you can just sit in a corner in the office pretending to work, but if you're chasing people in stripey jumpers carrying bags marked "swag" then that's something to discuss with the docs. |

I always used to use Star Wars to get me to sleep
![]() Mainly because I had seen it TONS of times, so enjoyed watching it, it would relax me and I didnt mind if I didnt see it to the end.

When I can't sleep well I find that valerian tablets (from Holland & Barrett) with mead (honey wine) or whisky help a lot.
Get a Yoga dvd and spend an hour doing Yoga before bed. It really relaxes you and it's quite hard not to sleep after Yoga. Try getting up an hour earlier each day. I haven't used this technique, but it was suggested by the hypnotist Paul McKenna. Hope that this helps. |

i to have broken sleep patterns hence why i'm writing this, but its not my fault, my wife is up and down all night (she is disabled).
have you tried camomile tea? yes it tastes a bit yuck.. but it works.. it may also be your job. attending rta's and other disturbing things may be causing your brain to stay alert... try talking to your local divisional shrink... |
