What are your engine casings like condition wise?
From reading the linky on the first page it sounds like lazymanc has on engine that just needs engine casings (think his was stolen, dropped then recovered) so might be worth giving him a pm and asking him if he wants rid of it, just a thought.
I had the crank snap on my k3 and got a replacement engine, minus front cylinder head for very little money off an orger, one will turn up just keep looking in the for sale section and post in wanted section.

I've just bought parkinmj's engine casings to rebuild the original damaged engine with as a learning project. However I might be tempted to part with it and the casings if I can recoup most of what I spent on a replacement engine off eBay. Let me know if you're interested.

Why not? You expect the CPS to build a case just on that?

It's an 03 with 13.5k on it. Only thing wrong with it was the broken oil filter mount where it fell off the stand with no wheels on. It'll also need a generator cover cause the one i bought didnt have any covers - ive got a spare clutch cover though. Thread is on here somewhere with pics.

Price wise I'd be looking for about 250 for the engine, but I've just paid 70+p&p for the casings, so say £300 all in?

So whats actually needed in order to resolve the damaged oil filter mounting? I've read the thread but dont full understand what the best course of action is.

Well the broken bit is part of the casing, and I've bought replacement cases, so you'd need a gasket set and a generator cover. Not sure how much work is involved swapping the cases, I guess it means a complete strip of the engine?

Also main bearings. (There are a few different sizes, not worth just betting it's correct IIRC)

Hmmm, not sure i can be arsed with changing the shells etc.

I'll let you know if i change my mind though. As much as i do enjoy fixing engines, i dont really have the time j ust at the moment to get too in depth. Im too ****ed off with things at the moment and thatwill translate in to inpatients, and so i'll fark something up.
