I told them to ram it earlier when they refused to re test it!!!

Took it to RCA in Stoneyburn, quality garage. Took me in there and then and needless to say the bike passed with flying colours.

Met a guy who had bother with JA when the brand new Aprilia SVX550 he bought blew up because they set the timing wrongly!!! Took them to court for a refund.

I wonder where i'll be taking my bike in future??

Its only the tool i needed seeing as i already have the bike which includes the nut Personally i think £25 is outrageous so i made one using a 28mm socket.

I've now got the rerar suspension linkage off and have found one dead bearing so far. Its the one that the shock bolts to.

The only part left to strip is the swingarm bearings, is this a major headache or can i get to the bearings without taking the exhaust off?

Looks like i should be able to access the bearings just by removing the nut + spacer and i'll be able to see and grease the bearings either side. Don't fancy taking the exhaust off as no doubt it will be well seized on now!

JUST TO BRING THIS THREAD BACK TO LIFE, THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO HEAR OF THIS.

I BOUGHT A MINT CONDITION 2000 W PLATE MODEL.
THE BIKE HAD STOOD FOR 6 YEARS ........

THE BIKE IS AT MY MATES IN COUNTY DURHAM AND HIM BEING VERY MECHANICALLY MINDED AS I AM HAS DECIDED TO DO A COMPLETE STRIP AND RECOMMISSION FOR ME.

I REPLACED THE PADS BRAKE LINES CHAIN SPROCKETS NEW TYRES
(WELL JIM HAS I JUST BOUGHT EVERYHING), FULL ENGINE SERVICE.

THE MILAGE IS JUST UNDER 5K.

BUT HE FOUND ONE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION LINKGE BUSHES HAD PICKED UP SO HE HAS DECIDED TO CHANGE THE LOT AS WELL AS SWING ARM BRG's (JUST BOUGHT THE TOOL)

ANYHOW SOME CHAPS JIM KNOWS HAVE A RACE TEAM

THEY TOLD JIM (WHO OWNS A RIZLA GSXR1000) THAT ALL NEW BIKES FROM THE LATE 90's UP HAD NO LUBRICATION ON ANY OF THE SUSPENSION LINKAGE BUSHES AND WOULD RECOMMEND ANYBODY BUYING A DECENT SIZED BIKE THESE DAYS TO STRIP AND LUBRICATE

I HAVE A '79 GS750E AS WELL IN THE GARAGE AND OBVIOUSLY NO SUCH PROBLEMS.

BUT HE WAS AMAZED AND FRANKLY SO AM I THAT THESE THINGS INCLUDING NEEDLE ROLLERS ARE PUSHED IN AND RAN DRY.

THE REASON IS THAT WHEN FITTED AT THE FACTORY THEY ARE IN NEAR CLINICAL CONDITIONS AND WHEN BOLTED UP AND COVERED ....IN THEORY SHOULD NEVER SEE WATER.

THEN THEY COME TO BRITAIN !!!!!!

Yup they're useless. If I bought a new bike tomorrow I'd be going round it with some good quality lith complex grease, copper slip, stainless fasteners in places etc.

I have similar thoughts here about exhaust. I have not yet received my workshop book, but I guess it is possible to check swing shaft bearings without removing exhaust.

But is it even possible to remove old bearings (if they are bad) without removing exhaust? If not, what is best way to remove exhaust from old bike, I mean should I avoid opening bolts in cyl head and try connections in pipe? Exhaust is quite complex and it is little bit hard to figure out how to remove it easiest way. Might be that only way is to open all connections including both cyl heads.

PS. I don’t understand why my search didn’t found this discussion about month ago, I am 100% sure that I tried search with word ”swing”
