I can only imagine you were given a complete shed. The Dullsville I had was awesome. Paid £500 for it and the only expense apart from tyres were disks all round (£120) and full stainless exhaust (£100). Rode it through three winters, it did over 200 miles to the tank. Dropped it twice and the only damage was a bent foot lever which I just bent back (steel not alloy) and couple of cracks in the plastics. It looks like a complete shed but just keeps on going. The engines are solid as a rock and so long as servicing and oil levels are kept up, will go for ever. Shaft drive so no chain maintenance or wear to worry about.

Wasn't a shed, for the £500 and the MOT I paid, I traded it in for £2k. However it was too heavy, screen was designed to direct as much wind blast onto your head as possible and everyone called me grandad.

So how does that equate to poor value?

I had a touring screen on mine which allowed me to ride motorway speeds and higher with the visor up. Seeing as we are talking about motorway commuting and not kicking up the dust on the twisties. The Deauville does it in the most excellent manor you could wish for. It's what the bike was designed for.

I was referring to it being poor value as in the same way I think a Ryanair flight for £1 is still poor value.

Now I can see why a cheapo flight with Yemen Airways might be poor value, but Ryan Air for £1 seems quite good value to me.

Until you discover the hidden £50 in taxes, surcharges and other fees plus paying £1 every time you want to use the toilet on the plane.

Had mine just over a year now, used it everyday on motorway just under 20miles each way (work and home)
never had a problem (that was caused by motorway riding).

After being away from biking for 7 years I thought an sv would be the ideal way to get back into biking, i do a 35 mile round trip daily, nearly the whole journey is fast A road, half of which is dualled.

Im getting about 160miles before the red light comes on, although TBH i dont tend to go much over 80mphjust been enjoying the ride and getting used to the bike and riding again. Ive fitted a DB screen which helps a bit, but will do the extra tooth front sprocket mod in the future.

I was torn between a fazer and the sv, but the extra height and weight put me off the fazer, although my last bike was an FZR600, but i needed t regain my confidence, I used to think the fzr had a small fairing and screen, but compared to the sv it was huge lol.

I know a scottoiler has been mentioned a few times already, but to underline the point - I adjusted my OEM chain for the first time before heading off to the GMII. 20200 miles with no adjustment. They just make sense. And if you get a loobtube it will do 2000 miles between oil fills.
