Restricted I'm getting anything up to 170ish and the first reserve light comes on. De-restricted usually about 130-140.

You guys need a Versys.

I've managed to squeeze 250 miles from a tank and it took just over 19 litres to fill the supposedly 19 litre tank when I finally did. Normal use sees me getting approx 190 - 210 miles to a tankful.

Really? Using engine braking opens the TES valve in the carbs and dumps petrol in from the pilot circuit, hardly economical.

Last scotland trip I managed to do 12.5l in 80 miles or so, but that was treating the throttle as an on-off switch and keeping it somewhere between 7k and the redline. Ace fun. MissYC got lots of comments like "my missus would kill me if I did what you put up with" so I must have been doing something right.

Balls to economy, even ragged to death it's better than a car, ride it properly

90% of the time my light stats to flash @ 175, I comute every day 10 miles to wprk and the 10 miles back, mainly A Roads and dual carraige ways.

About the fuel light, mine does flash and then go solid. But when it flashes the gaps between the flashes are different with every flash.

I presumed that the flashing stage was not designed in and it is just the fact that when you are near that point where fuel is getting low and bank the bike over or go up/down a hill the fuel moves from the sensor and it thinks your low so puts a solid light on, then it goes off a again when upright. Hence intermitent flashes.

Is this true?

cant say it is, mine flashes when its stood still so i think its meant to be there.. it is really annoying when your going along and it cathes your eye

I am surprised that little feature hasn't been disabled on some bikes, guessing that some riders might enjoy listening to the bark on the overrun.

Ha, no I will get more from a tank, I just fill up at 100 just incase! Don't like the thought of running out of petrol! The light doesn' even come on! I'll just have to be more brave!

Ruth,

How much are you putting in at 100mi? It is easy enough to get a feel for your fuel consumption (ie miles divided by litres at the bowser... then multiplied by the usable tank capacity for range). You have about 14 litres to play with leaving a comfortable 3 litre reserve.
Also, it is perfectly okay to just ride it like you don't care to the reserve light at which point you'll have about 30mi (probably more but that is a safe number) to find yourself a bowser.

Cheers

Erm can only tell you in monetry value, at 100 miles i'm putting about £9-10 in!

If i can get 30 miles on the light then thats fine i can ride it till that, I was worried that the light came on at about 5 miles or something! thank you

No worries.
Fuel prices in the 105-115p (those prices are hideous) range would give you something around 8-9 litres which is about what I would expect for 100mi in traffic.
Edit: for some reason I saw a question there

Cheers
