I wouldn't touch Magnum boots again with a barge pole. Had several pairs. I spent £120 on one pair and they only lasted 7 months before they were falling to bits. And they had been looked after reasonably well. I didn't have pair of magnums that lasted me longer than a year.

I nearly bought some Lowa combat boots instead of the scarpas, but the scarpas were comfier even if they are less supportive about the ankle.

I spent 3 days hiking in airwalk trainers with no sores or blisters each day was just under 20 miles over hills and through mud, they were never the same after that much walking. normally i would steal my brothers army boots but he was on a training weekend when i had to use my trainers.

Merrell´s I love them, the first pair I brought the same weekend I walked up and down Snowdon with them and not one blister!!
I was sold from then on, for comfort and support, sadly I wear them out very fast and within two years they are no use to anyone ![]() |

Haven't tried the Brashers, but I have the Salomon equivalent and can't rate them highly enough - they have seen me through 4 years and many many many miles of daily wear across fields, up hills, pounding the streets of London...
IMO you don't need anymore support than that unless you're doing serous hill or mountain walking. As for brands, most of the ones you mention are pretty reputable, so I'd just try several on and pick the one that fits you the best |

What on earth are you spending £120 on a pair of magnums for?! ![]() If your spending that sort of money on a combat boot then you should be looking at the proboot. Goretex and thinsulate for about the £100 mark (even less if you speak nicely to the QM ![]() Had mine for about 5 years, used at least once a week and constantly when on exercise etc with no problems. |

Apparently the best thing is to try a wide range for best fit (like bike helmets). When I was in cadets I used to do a lot of road-marching and walking (Nijmegen 4-day, 3 peaks) and wore Hi-Tec Magnums. Not very waterproof, if it was going to be boggy I used Berghaus waterproof socks. They were very comfortable, and only rubbed on the back of my achilles tendon, which I cured with Elastoplast. Gore-Tex is best for waterproofing.

Bit like crash helmets, it depends on the shape of your foot AND the way you walk. Meindl for boots, Berghaus for walking shoes for me.

Aigle, pretty much wouldn't considerer anything other brand, although they're not always easy to find, they're definitely worth the effort.
Currently on a pair of Aigle Komadi GTX boots, which started life as a nice sand colour, and are now jet black (I had an incident with an oil drain pan so had to dye them). I've had them 3 years, they're worn day in, day out, and you wouldn't know it from looking at them. As a brand, the quality of their gear is pretty much unbeatable, from wellies and walking boots to clothing. They specialise in outdoor sports (shooting, hunting, riding, nautical), no other products come close. I've a coat that I've had for about 6 years, and that's the same, still looks as good as the day I got it, five years on and it's still 100% waterproof after being through the wash numerous times. |
