I reckon you have AC going to the 'electrics ... disconnect the reg/rec* and see if it still does it.
*obviously don't go for a mammoth ride after this as the battery won't be getting any charge! |

Battery earth and there will be some wires coming out of the loom and bolted to the frame (probably under the tank), un-bolt them and make sure it is getting a good contact, clean up the connection if it looks even slightly furry.

i had similar on my '99 and '01 sv's a few years ago, idle was slightly higher though, but my problem was caused by the choke cable splitter...1 of the cables was stuck and the actual splitter had a crack in it, letting all sorts of crap into the cables..i rode in all weather and never cleaned bike though

Yep, the way the lights are flickering in the dash suggests power issues rather than fueling.
Unbolt the wire from the -terminal on the battery, give it a clean with some emery paper, trace the other end to to where it bolts to the bike, remove, clean and use some copperslip when you re-assemble[1]. Disconnect the spade terminal that forks off this wire, clean that up. Try again. If that fails then its time to visit every major connector, check for corrosion (green sh*t), clean as appropriate, use Vaseline on the terminal blocks when reassembling to prevent future water ingress. If that fails then its out with the multimeter and tracing all your wires, you may have a broken wire. ![]() Druid [1] Both helps with corrosion and gives a nice contact.
