Funny that... as a former PowerMac G3 and PowerBook G4 owner, the only thing I really miss about them right now is the money I spent on them.

At the time they were the bees knees and pretty much better than anything else on the market, hardware and software wise, even though they were almost twice the price of "normal" Windows PCs.
Now they're just twice the price.

Of all the arguments Mac have in their favour, that's probably the one that can more easily be turned around. Why spend twice as much money on a Macbook now when you can spend half now and another half 2 years from now, on a brand new notebook that will come with a brand new battery and hard drive, which are the bits you're more likely to replace anyway?

I don't think weighing computer longevity against much higher purchase prices is the way to go. If it's the difference between a better spec CPU or some other vital part and we're talking about 100 quid, fair enough. When it's twice the price to get twice the longevity, IMHO it stops making sense.

My 2 cents!

+1 The price can not be justified just because its shiney lol, i also wont buy a preowned laptop for the same reasons.

I also agree most people dont need to processing power of a modern PC OR Mac. However, if you do a lot of file extracting and file repair, you notice a huuuuuge difference.

well all I can say is that I'm more than happy with it

After a lifetime of PCs this is a breath of fresh air TO ME!! Also something new to learn as the philosophy of the OS is slightly different shall we say to Windows.

give it a week or two and it'll start to feel like you've known the OS for a long time... after a month you'll have sussed out all the little short cuts you used to use in windows. After that you'll probably find out 1-2 clever feature's each week. Been using mine at home for a year now and I still find little features/ways of doing things which make me think "wow... apple.... I love you guys"

I got mine back in October, one of the best buys of my life, up there with my bike. Im sure a house would sit nicely up there once i get round to it.
But i cant fault it at all. My dad got a new laptop the other day. Top of the range spec sony with the latest windows and everything. He works with computers day in, day out. He writes programs and this thing was causing him crap out the box. Just transferring his files over and installing a couple of programs.
I got my Macbook out the box and within half hour everything was done. Nice and easy, no worries, all simple, all done.
Apple give you a simple and easy service that WORKS as it should.
