The contrast ratio is the, erm, Ratio between the blacks and the colours on the screen and yes the higher the better. although some screens with lower CR can be better all depending on how they handle the black on the screen. LED units have a higher CR as well as better black due to the nature of LED backlighting.

tother way round.
And regarding LED backlighting, there are two sorts, the cheaper edge lit LED backlighting, which is pretty much no advantage at all, and the more expensive 'proper' LED backlighting, that due to its position behind the matrix, can have its intensity varied dependant on the picture to be displayed, meaning it can produce much deeper blacks and thus higher contrast ratio.

I got this one
http://www.richersounds.com/product/...490/lg-32ld490

Good stuff:
It's got Youtube and BBC iplayer in HD! and also has facebook and twitter which I don't use, and there's a few other things too. Oh and the xbox looks amazing now. I can actually read stuff in the games!

Bad stuff:
The sky is plugged in with the scart cable and it is getting some wobbling on the screen. It seems to be when I go in to tv guide or come out. Or if I go on sky active it's really bad. It's like the screen is moving up and down by a few pixels. It does it a few times quickly then settles down. Pretty annoying. If I can't get it sorted I'll be taking it back.

There's a delay with the xbox which is pretty noticeable. When I pull the throttle trigger it's just not instant like it was on the old CRT. I set up sky on both tvs to see the difference, and there is about half a second of lag between them.

You want something with a good dyanimic range, difference black to white ie the grey scale.

If a TV can not do black that well, the picture is crap as it will not display black properly. So you need a TV that is able display black well, thus a better picture. You want a screen that is progressive, as 1080i is not full hd due to the interlacing. That is why we are shooting 1080i 24p for a show we are filming now.

Do not buy cheap it will look crap and probally break at some point. Get something that is full HD. At some point I would have thought the bandwith of HD broadcast will jacked up, its kinda low at the moment but who knows.
