With the fuel protests back in 2000, half the problem with getting fuel was the muppets stopping at nearly every petrol station to top-up. You sat in a queue with an near empty tank for ages waiting for 30 muppets ahead of you all putting in £2.50's worth of fuel.

Unfortunately there are loads of such muppets and the only way any government can solve the muppet problem would be to introduce a muppet extermination scheme. As many of the muppets are voters (that's why you only need to be capable of making a mark on a piece of paper to vote....) and taxpayers the government is unwilling to take such a step....

Government is probably quite happy about the extra tax boost from the fuel sales....

Oh yeah... AND at least two thirds of the price increases in fuel and duty since the fuel protests in 2000 when fuel was below £1 a litre and coincidently Labour were in power.

That one protest blows the whole "people strike and protests under a tory government" out of the water.

It makes me laff.......

I got my fridge fixed this morning. The man in the van said hes not seen anybody queuing for petrol.
We were chatting away, and he said, you know that Union on the side of the strike......am I right in saying that it is hand in hand with LABOUR? what better way to wind up the tories by pulling a strike.
Pay and conditions? Well has anybody actually seen a tanker of fuel blow up lately? Can't be that unsafe?

Nope but they had more votes, on a simple vote, the Tories won, labour didn't.

There's an awful lot of blame being thrown around as to the cause of fuel shortage at the moment. Regardless of who said what in the government, seriously, when a possible threat of fuel delivery strikes hit the press what would you expect likely to happen next?

Pretty obvious that people will decide to fill up tanks to give them more chance to avoid any problems, totally natural reaction. I don't get the argument that "fill up now and it will be gone in seven days anyway", if you are using that much fuel in a week then frankly you're stuffed should a strike occur, but many people do not empty a tank in a week and it makes total sense to fill up and avoid trouble down the line.

Any news of interruption to fuel supplies will always result in this kind of reaction, regardless of what some numpty on the news says about jerry cans.
