Although I have to admit I've nothing to compare it with, I find my SVSK4 is great for carving though traffic. Not the best turning circle, but good enough, and I can't say I find it jerky.

I love my SV its my first bike (unrestricted) will probably upgrade when im 25 and have had the bike for a couple years so I can get cheaper insurance. However would probably be swayed if I can get more power out of the bike to keep it longer

Hi, just got my SV (unfaired '99 model), and although I'm not sure I qualify yet, I voted "SV Enthusiast". I don't drive and use my SV for everything, and intend to keep it for a long time- if I wanted a stepping stone I would probably have gone for a 500. So far I haven't found a reason why I'd want to change bike- I think I've made the right choice, and I will probably be riding it until it falls to bits, I fall to bits or someone persuades me to give up bikes and get a car.

My Sv was a very carefully considered choice to get me back in the saddle.I enjoyed every minute of ownership.Great value for money bike if you accept it's limitations.
I adore the Vee twin character and hence I went the opposite way of Nouf!

In another 35 years I'd like to think I'll be a happy 70 year old hooning around on Black - a worn and weather rider but an immaculate '99 SV650s.
Part of this is to do with the bike's character itself, but I will admit as much is to do with the circumstances of how I was able to afford it in the first place.

Other bikes will come (ZX6R & CBR900RR) and go (ZX6R) but the SV will outstay them all, though the 'Blade may keep it company - gotta have a VT & and IL4 dharling!

SV fo' life, bro...

Well, I'll probably be looking for another bike in a couple of years, but as long as I've got space for a second bike and I can afford to run it, I'll keep the SV. To be honest, it'll have fairly minimal value by the time I come to sell anyway so depending on circumstances I'll either daytime MOT/track bike it, or nakedise it and do all the stupid cosmetic mods I can't do on a 365-day bike...

Default SV poll

Tried lots of machines over the years, from screaming race prepared two-strokes to litre capacity four cylinders. road bikes, trail bikes (God, how much HAVE I spent over the years!?).

For me, the SV offers the perfect balance of performance, handling, ease of maintenance, fun, good looks; the list just gets longer. It is however a free world, and each to their own.

Nah - I'm used to your jibing, so obviously borne out of jealousy, and so I've become immune to it

If the question had been about one's first "big bike" and not specifically about the SV then yes, mine is a stepping stone to something bigger but it won't be for a couple of years until this one's paid for. I note that I'm not the only one financing their bike with Cahoot

I really like the look/idea of the current Fazer 1000 but fear that Yamaha will go down the same "looks route" as with the 600. If they do then it will be off my short-list.

Can't see me ever getting on with a Supersports bike of any sort.

If not a Fazer 1000, then prob get either a CB1300, Hornet 900 or SV1000S .
