If someone were to have an accident on a motorcycle where by that person crashed into, lets say an Armco barrier, no other vehicles were involved and the rider was not prosecuted for anything what so ever. How would it be possible for an insurance company to not only track down the fact that the rider had been in the accident in the first place, but also to relate the stay in hospital with said accident

As far as I can see, the only way that the insurance company would ever know about that rider being involved in the accident would be if he/she had been at the least cautioned, but probably more likely, charged with a driving offence. Even then, as there was no third party involvement, I would seriously doubt they would have information on their database that recorded the incident.

Do they ask when you apply for insurance if you have had any hospital stay or visits as a result of an accident where you were the driver

As far as I recall, they ask you if you have had any convictions or accidents within a specified period regardless if you were at fault or not.

I would say that when applying for insurance it would be just about unconceivable to believe that the insurance company will start checking your medical records to see if you were admitted as a result of an accident. At most they would do a database check to see if there were claims, fault or non fault against your name. Any other information would be unavailable due to the data protection act. Right or wrong

Everybody but my insurance company knows about my crashes But then, I know there's no way for them to find out about them unles they employ spies. No police reports, no hospital stays, no third party involvement at all in fact. Except for Dirty Baz, Nutty and SVTonyB who've all picked it up afterwards, but they're not telling.

This topic has got me all worried about my insurance after recent events but if you haven't claimed they cn't look at medical records as that is a breach of data protection- plus- even if you were hospitalised you could have been a pillion....?
