great. another one who doesnt see the cost of this to those of us who cant get justice for more serious cases because the courts are full of people guilty of the offence making a useless and expensive point.

and if you dont think it doesnt cost YOU anything, where do you think the courts are funded from? your taxes. make it more expensive, watch the cuts come in in other areas and you paying more tax.

I'm sure all the fines they DO collect off of perfectly safe drivers more than covers it.

Also, justice needs to be served at every level. You want justice, and so do those accused of speeding.

Maybe so, but the government can hardly plead poverty. They just won't spend the money - so it's a moot point really.

The courts are supposed to be self-funding, no?

Lyn... calm down. If your case has been put off, it's possibly down to many different factors - least of all timetabling a Judge on the rounds to sit on the case as it's unlikely to be just any old magistrate.

Speeding hearings may be over in an hour, but your case may need to be allocated up to a week, maybe more!

Everyone has a right to defend themselves in a court - guilty or not guilty, and being caught speeding is no exception. It's the individual's choice.

My personal feeling is that if police were present with a speed gun, they should have pulled him over, rather than the fire-and-forget law enforcement that plagues our forces these days. But we've all heard this before...

but my point is against those who advocate that people clearly guilty of speeding should go to court to waste the courts time and money or to make a pointless protest against a government that wont listen.

by doing so, they take the time away from innocent people who cant get heard because they are as mpaton put it "wasting" the courts time.

if you cant accept responsibility for your actions, dont speed. big credit to simon that he can.

Hmmm. I see what you're saying, but in your case the chances are you're not going to get the justice you deserve and you're rightly unhappy about this.

Equaly, someone who's done for speeding because they accelerated too soon into an increasing speed limit may well feel that justice isn't being served either.

If you accept that the justice system isn't infailable, then you can't really complain when people do what they can to get justice as they perceive it... or if they can't, cause as much trouble as they can.
