The pointy has a very good restrictor, which makes it totally rideable.
The insurance is cheap for a big bike.
Very torquey (good for town)

But I have to admit, there are so many bikes I would prefer instead, I am just being sensible right now. The restrictor comes off in October, and I'll then ride it another 2 years, and then use it as part ex. By that point I'll have had 5 years on bikes (1 on a scooter to start) and i'll be almost 24, which means I can get a bike I really want. I'm thinking either the speed triple 675 (it is coming apparanently) or the mt02 (it is coming as well, not the bulldog), or the 1200gs (if i decided to go the long distance touring route). I have a car license but I really don't like being in a car, so I think i'll also get a small off road winter hack.

The fact you can customize it so much.

The fact there is a community of other riders enjoying it.

I like my curvey as its curves are more feminine and not so phalic - I think if i had a pointy it would have to be a lot quicker and stealth like - then it'd be a blade, GSXR, RSV. With a curvey, she doesnt give the impression she wants to win a race - just look good, and ride well.

But the best thing that makes me keep it - That sound when you come out of a bend or roundabout and give it some - mmm the pleasure of that sound always puts a smile on my face.

The other people that ride and appreciate them - They don't often judge a book by the cover, which is true of the SV.

So much more to it than meets the eye, and what does meet the eye is very pleasant.

The fact that I can swap between Black (my SV) and Blue (my FireBlade) and enjoy two totally different rides, learning different things from each bike all the time. I really believe that each have made me a better rider on the other in loads of different little ways.

It can still make me smile at the end of a ride. In fact it can just make me smile after a polish and a cuppa!

Hi all,
like Northwind said now I have sorted out the suspention and upgraded the brake calipers I can throw it about and is is very forgiving.
It sounds realy nice with a can on and the low down grunt from the v twin coming out of slow corners and roundabouts is all that I want, and it is fast enough for me not to get in trouble.
And to me it looks the dogs nuts.

What makes me keep my SV?

the crash damaged fairings that mean i'll lose a ton if i try to sell it,
the fact that it wont drive 100 metres in the cold without stalling, meaning i cant sell it anyway as its undriveable.

My sv has been a money pit from day one, i'd love to be rid of it but i cant afford a new bike right now.

Because I'd kill Pete if he bought anything else!

It's my baby, we've done 45,000 fantastic miles together, and we know it inside and out.

And we wouldn't get anything else through the front door anyway

My reasons?

Its fun
She is reasonable to run
She is my first bike
I prefer the pointy to the curvy
The pointy is good to restrict for the younger kids

I guess she is just enough fun to have a bit of mis-chief now and again and not get myself killed!

Cheers

Rich
