For me its a tool, I like riding but it doesn't come close to chuckin my old lotus round the b roads. If i could afford to run my car( and it was remotely reliable) to work everyday, I would.

My family business was consulting automotive engineers and claims assessors. Consequently dad had seen the result of far too many accidents and bikes were banned. Family rule was You wan't a bike, you don't live here. Twin brother moved out at 17 having withdrawn his savings to buy a brand new GT250. As a poor student I had to make do with my Vauhall Viva. Although a Hustler appeared in my brothers back yard that dad knew nothing about .

So I grew up, had a family, job changed a few times and I felt unwell one day. The wife called the doctor out and the next thing I am in the local A&E. Put on a trolley and admitted, my blood pressure was seriously through the roof and over the next 5 days continued to rise peaking at 220/165. My brother came in to see me and told me I was to get a bike again.

Problem had been, too much work. Too much family and not enough Tim. Got out of hospital, took 3 months off work, bought a Bandit off E Bay and had it totalled 6 days later. What a confidence smasher that was (Personal injuries claim still going through on that). So a few months later I am ready to have another go. This time I see an SV in Autotrader for £2800, go to see it. point out faults and wave £2100 at him. Walk away and he chases after me. That was 2 and half years ago and I don't regret ever coming back to bikes.

My BP is now medicated down. I have jumped off the corporate ladder and realise that money/status are of no importance. When ever I now have a stressful journey back up the M6 or family earache. I then take the bike out for a crazy blast just to put the smile back on MY face.

The bike is nothing to do with transport as I have a car for that. It is about me. I ride it because I want to. It stays in the garage if it is wet. It is a toy. Some play golf or go to the gym etc. I ride a bike.

first got a bike to commute, but after riding for a while i was looking for an excuse to take the long route home every day..riding is such a fantastic feeling
being totaly honest,it took me 3 attempts to pass my driving test (i think it was a subconscious thing..i dont think i was really bothered)
been riding now for 22 years,i own a car but very rarely drive
always loved the sense of freedom you get from riding a bike and want to carry on doing so...untill my body tells me otherwise

Cos I get pee'd off driving a truck in traffic and bikes don't have the hassle
You try doing 300-350 miles a day at 56mph max and you will then really appreciate the joys of biking----------------------FREEDOM--[Occasionally speed]
