Sometimes, less is more...
Also what you doing in two years time with your SV ? Standard bike is going to fetch more than a heavily modded one as you are thinking of doing. Sounds like the bike you are looking at already has some stuff on it, Undertray etc so just keep it simple. One of the sharkskins fairings I've seen does look good though, but as others have said painting it is going to be expensive. Unless you're handy with a spray gun. Prep work is everything though with spraying panels. You can make anything fit, if you are prepared to go all out on it. Bear in mind though that sometimes the race fairings are roughly finished and also the ones I've seen have been very thin. I'd be worried it was all going to vibrate itself to bits if used on the road. I think what I'd be doing it trying to mock up something like how you think the bikes going to look in photoshop first to give yourself an idea of how it might turn out. Also dont cover the thing in stickers when you're done it just looks sh*t. I reckon the a good paint scheme can really finish a bike off well, if its done right. At your age, I'd be staying away from performance mods, the insurance is going to cripple you.

Oh, one more thing, try and go for something unique that nobodies done before. IMHO the whole "Rizla" things been done to death, but the black like you are thinking off oughta set that fairing off nicely.
Also try and keep the unique's or SV'ness about it, Dont make it look like a Gixer, it'll spoil it. Try and get something unique that at first glance nobody will recognise and it'll take them a minute of two to work out what it is.

Alot of the advice seems spot on so i dont really have much to add except....get some online quotations done with different companies to find out if the insurance is feasible for a heavily mod'ed bike with such a young(inexperienced) rider.
As people have said they may not touch you with a bargepole ![]() If something sportier is what you want it may well turn out cheaper overall to pay more insurance and not enter the wallet black-hole that is modding! |

If you can't afford to insure the bike with modifications, then don't do the modifications in the first place.
TBH if you crash, most companies will only pay for the bike to be put back to standard anyway, however if its pinched and the mods you've done make it more desirable cosmetically wise, then you might find that the insurance comany may well refuse to pay out. I'm not sure of exactual technicalities, In my opinion its best to declare it all and then you dont have to worry about it, if anything does happen.

The SV is a great bike for two reasons IMO - It does most things well and there are enough mods to have it your way.
The fact they're cheap to buy and (shock!) even cheaper to insure is an aside. Which 50 did you have? |

Straight line speed aside, last year, whilst I was Restricted, I used to keep up with a bunch of other riders. Their bikes include a Benelli Tornado, Ducati 996 and a Gixer 750. The SV is a lot ''Sportier'' than other bike riders think.
I'm never getting rid of mine, she'll be my track bike when her road days are over. |

Doing the mods I did to my bike hardly cost anything once I resold the origonal parts!
