I know of a fair few bike kit shops that don't have CCTV. The one Paws works at is not unusual in that organisation.

I managed to get someone successfully prosecuted last year for 2 pairs of boots found in their house during a raid (about £325 quids worth), and tried to offer some crime prevention advice like cameras etc, which the staff were very receptive too and assured me that my comments would be "passed up the line" - but when I went back later it would appear that the message "passed back down the line" was that it was not cost effective.
Very interesting comments about the message passed up the line, because the Darlington shop was originally opened by the wife of one of HG's senior managers at Harrogate (he's now left to work elsewhere). She'd only have had to mention it over dinner that evening.

You'll find the security tag has been chopped off with a pair of sidecutters and is currently sitting in one of the boots on display - that's how it used to happen at Harrow shop.

no.......... but, would you nick a jacket from a shop, then wear it back in the same shop a few days later?

You or I might not, but we're not brass-necked thieves who'd nick a £400 jacket

Mate when i used to do that work i'd se people come in and take a t shirt off and put a new one on and try and walk out the door. Mostly blokes sadly
But if you challenged them they would say "No i was wearing this when i came in, prove i wasnt!"
Some serious A-holes out there who just steal not for the ££££ but for the "machismo" of it.

Paws, I know how you feel hun but maybe its better to put a simple sign in the window like they do in newsagents "No groups of 3 or more in the shop at once". That way they are warned before entering the premises so they can be asked to leave if they dont comply and if they still refuse you can call the cops and have them removed.
Also, the cops will probably find a reason to search them etc if they do come down and know the history of why the sign went up.

Nice, cheap alternative that also saves having to pass it by any up line managers.
