another thing I thank my Dad for. I'm pretty pedantic about oil checks, tyre pressure checks etc (perhaps i should be about scottoiler connections.....)

Badn luck matey

The oil light is not for the level; its for pressure. I check my oil quite often, and keep it topped up to the uppermost level (indicated by the line on the sight glass).

I'll have a poke at the oil level tomorrow

out of interest, what was the level when you had chekced it two weeks previously?

Matt

Mine always uses oil when it's being ridden spiritedly. No signs of it being burnt or chucked out of anywhere. It's a mystery

Perhaps it's our age LP. I'm obsessive about the oil and nearly so about tyre pressures.

Shame that low oil pressure catches so many people out.

Seen as only 2 perople have answered your 'How long?' question i'll add to this thread by being the third.

Whoever said one hour each way has either done it many times before or is so quick he's likely to be sloppy and miss somthing.

Whoever said a day was probably about right for the first time you do it.

Assuming you can get things like exhaust bolts out then a day is a realistic figure with your time probably being 1 1/2 to 2 hours getting it out and the rest of the time getting it back in.

It's really not a difficult job and i've only ever done it on pointy's co with just a bank of carbs it has got to be even easier.

Couple of things though. If the engine bolts are the same as the pointy version you will need a 23mm 6 point socket for one of the bolts. Suzuki take the corners off the heads so 12 points dont work.

If you dont have any 6 points go and get a set up to 19mm and an extra 23mm before you start or you will be cursing the day you ever thought it would be a good idea!!

Good luck.

whilst I have done more than a few, the SV engine is one of the easiest to remove and replace, good work practises and a systematic approach can see the whole thing done within an hour, so for someone with a proper workshop double that isn't unrealistic.

as for sloppy and missing things, the above methods preclude that, although I can't obviously speak for how others may work.

ah I see, from experiance then

Cheers Mark.

Yeah was the first time i'd done anything more than an oil change. All the bolts pretty much came out/off with no problems. I didn't rush through it as i didn't want to mess it up by forgeting to do something. The best bit was when it started on the 1st press of the starter button after the swap
