Many years ago when working on hydraulic systems and looking at fitration levels, I found the comment that a used filter was better than a new one because it would stop more contaminant. A new filter had more empty holes in it and would therefore pass more until it had started to block up.
Not really relevant to bikes, but it does imply that changing a filter at too short an interval is not always good practice, particularly as you always add some contaminant to an oil system when you open it up.

As B.Biggles says, fully synthetic can cost double semi.

Eyh... how on earth is putting fully synth in your bike going to make the clutch slip... you've lost me on that one.
Edit : I read the post above yours, still sounds like cobblers to me...

Nothing to lose really alpineman (part from a few quid if it doesn't like it and you haven't another bike the oil could go in)

An oil conforming to JASO MA is tested for use with wet clutches. So that's pretty much all bike oils.
I've always used fully synth, and my clutch has never slipped. From miles under the wheels I conclude that the pub "experts" don't know what they're on about. OTOH, if you use a totally different spec of oil to that specified then you have no grounds to whinge when it doesn't work as specified.
