Well I've just been thinking about it as if I was the driver. I don't see the issue with using a phone at slow speeds (5ish) as I would hope near enough every driver on the road would be competent enough cope with any situation which slowly unfolds.
Much rather someone phoned up work at 5mph to quickly say they'll be late in to work rather than try and sneakily text their boss. The sensationalism in this thread is riviting. Is putting makeup on illegal? See that regularly at much higher speeds. |

Anyway, I wouldn't have bought this guys excuse. Its the same as concealing a dangerous weapon in my eyes. Just cos they aint using it and not putting someone at risk, doesn't mean they might not. Likewise, this douche just sounds like he got caught at the right time to make this excuse. Had the traffic started to flow would he have hung up? You can only assume no and book 'em anyway. If it'll deter him from using it at anytime in the future, then job done, simple as that. Its not to book people, but to prevent future accidents imo! edit: that should be imo, and is prob worse than phoning. There is no way you can be looking at the application of your makeup correctly whilst still concentrating on the road! Last edited by thulfi; 04-12-09 at 11:01 PM. |

if the bloke was being a cocky t**t about it then i would say book em, if he was putting forward a genuine reasoned arguement and was polite about it, an explanation of the fact the law is the law and as much as we dislike it we all have to abide by it and should you catch him again you wont think twice about booking him,

If I was caught then I would be happy to accept the ticket. Everyone is well aware o what the penalties are for it.

yeep. I got caught at a set of reds..moving off slowly...the call was 2 seconds...
Picked up: "Yeeh im round the corner"...hung up. that was it, literally, No Hi's, no byes.!.Copper next to me that I hadn't spotted pulled me over, and done me over. Fair do's...was slightly gutted with such a short phone call being seen, but I broke the rule of the road, so nothing to be said. Only 3 points ive ever got so far, in 6yrs of driving. I always thought I'd get done rinsing it through the motorway one day, but never did. I used to own a Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo, and was on the M1 once at bout 4am on a Monday or something...I shall say no more! edit: got me remembering now, man I loved this car ![]() Last edited by thulfi; 05-12-09 at 12:04 AM. |
