I race with melville and north east on a minitwin too. I've not noticed my bike to be any slower than the rest. I think alot off people fail to realise, Say go around pates 3 mph faster than the person in front. That means you're already 3 mph going down the straight so its like walking passed someone who is standing still? well my theory it is, my rocket science theory. Correct me if im wrong...
I ride the sv 650 121 painted argos lorry green novice vest red helmet etc etc etc if anyone is wondering.

well thats exactly what ive been saying, your a novice, no disrespect at all, we all start with orange bibs, the minitwins are shopping/pizza delivery bikes they arnt out and out race bikes, i know who you are,you were oppisite me at east fortune for nemcrc meeting last month, you have to be quick in to the corners and use corner speed to get ya lap times down, you brake to much on a twin it take's you another lap to get in the rithum, my bike is standard and run up the front, its took me two years to get on the pace and learn to ride a minitwin quick i sold a ZX10R to go racing a twin,i got lapped off dave bell my first 4 races, i sat in my caravn gutted, the point is like you've pointed out is your not going to win races in the minitwins on the straights, even if you have a quicker bike, its all down to corner entry and corner speed on these bikes..

since the thread is already derailed............

I'm chucking it too!

I went out as a Sunday only rider at the North East meeting last month, in the same mental wind last year the Melville cancelled the days racing on safety grounds, hard call to make but I can see it both was so not going to criticise the organisers for racing.

Anyways, I found the wind pretty scary & was lapping 5 seconds of my normal speed which is incredibly slow, no excuses I just didn't feel comfortable on the bike in the conditions, it surprised the hell out of me that most folks could run 1:05's – 1:06's in wind, I couldn’t do owt like that.

In the feature race there was 7 bikes left after the 1st lap crash at Esses 2, I ended up 6th & miles back after the restart. 7 bikes when last year we had gawd knows how many

I dunno, the class seems to have lost something this year, I didn't enjoy the day and I'm finding it hard to justify all the expense to myself now the crisp grabbers are getting older and the wife wants all sorts of stuff done......

A bloke admitted to me that his bike was now kicking out 80 hp at the April meeting thinking I'd be impressed with his winter fettling and mechanical prowess. Makes me feel a bit crap when I've went out my way to make sure my bike is legal, what with it having the bigger engine and all.

Gonna keep the bike, I built it from scratch as a shiny road bike, but looking just to do the odd track day to keep my hand in from now on.

Times change, it's time for me to have some coin in me pocket!

Ant your right this well off track. Mate put ur Duc back on the road as it'll make you smile and the guy behind teeth rattle out!

Anyways to give a point to this uber rant.

Consider racing Pre-injection 600's as it is a case of whos fastest and buy scrubs from the supersports and F600's as they toast a set a race and they're fine to run.
Berlin never ran new tires on his GSXR600 or minitwins and was competitive

Hi Alex,
just want to say that i'm gutted to hear you're chucking it!!

The Minitwin class needs characters, and being the only Ducati rider-you're certainley one of them!!

I've got a question for you...would you reconsider staying in the class if it was run along the same lines as Bemsee? i.e. regular dyno tests and a clued up Minitwin technical inspector to make sure we were all singing from the same song book??

What i'm picking up here is that there are a growing number of riders who are becoming dissillusioned with the way the class is run by the North East and Scottish clubs.

And to answer one of Chris's points-if we knew that everybody else in the class was running very similar specced bikes, then we already know that we need to go faster round the corners to keep up mate-it's not rocket science!

If this class doesn't get itself sorted out soon with some proper regulation-then it's gonna die-and that's a real shame when it should be the most popular!!

Dont go Alex!!

Best wishes TC 252

alex i know the wind was a huge factor up at EF, i didnt enjoy my weekend at all,as for the trophy race i didnt bother going out,or i could of been involved in yhat 4 bike mess where i wreaked my bike last october!! i dont know if your local to the club or have read whats been said over the last few days, im going to the club this thursday to try and sort a meeting with the commitee for maybe the following thursday the 23rd with just minitwin riders and the club to sort this mess out, id all so would like to know whitch ridrs atre bragging about having 80bhp ect and running in the minitwins, those riders and the modified twins that we know of,i'm going to try and get them kicked in to the thunderbikes,as tony has said this class is a fun cheep way of racing, and a few are spoiling it and we all need to put are views over and get it sorted out.

Folks,
Were not here to blame the riders, its the poor policing of the minitwin class that is at fault.
So let all work together to get it right for us and the club!
A dyno is the only real way.
I'd happly pay an extra cost within the entry fee. It would save me the extra diesel to go race with Bemsee, which is my future plans if things dont change at the nemcrc.
Otherwise dont call it a minitwin class!
Chris, were all up for a meeting to help sort this out.

Hi Tony, I appreciate the words, cheers mate

To be honest me chucking it isn't really influenced by non legit bikes, if folks want to knowingly race a bike that isn't legal and they can look themselves in the mirror when they get up in the morning then let them get on with it.

My reasons are pretty simple; I dont get time (or money) to practice therefore I dont get time to improve myself. I fling the bike in the van at the end of a race weekend and it gets checked over and left till the next meeting. In May, Sunday warm up then race 1 was my first time on a bike since October

I dont like doing things by half, and I'm getting to the stage if I cant do it properly, as in enough time and money to do it right, ......... then what's the point?

Basically I dont feel I'm in the position to give the best account of myself and ride as well as I possibly can. If I was coming last every weekend and trying my heart out that would be totally cool, I'd be giving it everything and be satisfied that I'd tried my best, nobody can ever ask more of themselves than their best.

Upshot is I can ride a lot better than I am just now but aint in a position to do it properly, so no point in doing it.

Nobody has put me off, no matter how many more horses they have than me
