Default Re: Biker dies after coming off and hitting his head at NY helmet law protest

I've come off twice, both times walked (limped) away, once with a neck trauma and the second with a busted knee and cracked ribs. Fully leathered up. Both times the lid was badly damaged but head was OK.

If I had the choice from the start of my biking career I might not have worn a helmet due to my Braveheart cry freedom moments if I had been given the choice. Sometimes society has to save you from yourself and other people's experiences (rolled in to law) should not be ignored.

Had I not have worn a lid I'm sure I'd have needed ambulance/hopital admittance. Pricey.

Where do you drawn the line in the nanny state? When there are a number of people that can be saved and the requirement is reasonable I'd say. I don't know how many rock climbers in UK or elsewhere are killed due to a head trauma that a lid could prevent each year, but I imagine us bikers get the benefits from lids a lot more than many others.... hence the law?

I can't see the police bobbing up the side of a cliff to try and hand you a fine

LOL there was a Flintstones where Barney fits a helicopter rotor to the car. They go out flying and get 'pulled over' by a police helicopter and given a ticket!
