I got followed, overtaken, drop back on a game with some very nice cops in a marked car some years back. As the game progressed our speeds increased. All nice and safe. But by the time came to wave goodbye (which they did) I had seem 135 on the speedo. Considering this was over a 30+ mile run they would have had ample time to stop me as they initially overtook me at about 75, looked and blatantly encouraged me.

Not all cops are bad. But scameras and their operators are scum. Cops have and use discretion.

I meet policemen on a daily basis, and never fail to be amazed how ignorant some of them are.... (I could of course also include myself in that, nobody knows everything!).

Which bit of "I'm reporting you for speeding mate" leaves you in any doubt of his intentions?

The more I know, the more I realise I don't know...

He didn't say that. He said "you will be reported to the local police station who will inform you of any action they intend to take" - they didn't, until the summons dropped through my letterbox six months later.

I think you're missing my point. You said you could have told them to "shove it" because you hadn't been sent an NIP. I've simply pointed out that they were not required to do so, and indeed they even managed to serve you with the subsequent summons within the six month deadline. Inconsiderate leaving it that long I agree, but perfectly legal so no grounds for them to "shove it".
