I can confirm that this is the case. I was sworn to secrecy, but hey what the hell.

He dumps the top box at the side of the road (perfectly safe, obviously) not in the ruck sack. The ruck sack actually contains a rather lot of cleaning products. He says that although he dare not get them out and give his bike a little clean up from the ride in, for fear of persecution, he can't bear to leave them at home.

No I put the cleaning stuff inside the t*pbox which I carry in the rucksack.
