I seriously doubt they would take the throttle slides out to see if they have a whole in them, brake pads are fairly obvious things really.
Trust me they will, 2 hours at the side of the road, take your bike to bits, AND don't even have to put it back together again, AND can stop you from doing so, making you get recovered (or of course you get done for driving away on an unroadworthy vehicle ).

Generally it's the Police with DVLA bods in attendance, if they stop you, you're there until they find something, anything.

Cheers Mark.
Gotta pipe up on this one guys. I derestricted my SV a week after i got it, which was a week after passing my test. I rode it "illegally" for 11 months before i sold it on. I bought a totally restricted CBR400RR NC29, had the 1st stage derestriction taken out by the garage (my mate works there) and then bought a M-Max unit (which gets past the Jap 118mph restriction) and left me with a machine capable of 145mph.

I got stopped by the police, by the DoT (one such stop took 90 mins whilst they looked over every aspect of the bike).. but of course, you cant tell if its been de-restricted just by looking, you need to take the throttle bodies, carbs etc all to pieces... right down to the Carb Jets... which requires a workshop. And trust me.. THEY DONT HAVE THE TOOLS AT THE ROAD SIDE.

They arent engineers either, they know how to spot illegal exhausts (but even a false "BS" stamp can confuse them).

St Matt, if you want tips on de-resrestricting it - PM me i remember exactly how mine was done... but remember, i do not condone nor condemn it, on your head be it.

I don't think the mess is from severed Horses heads
Is it from none paying tenents then?. I hear that Joe has a particularly unsavory method of getting them to part with their treasured posessions
hahah Its not from horses heads. My tenants who dont pay...hmm...

Ever heard of Nicolas Van Hoogstraten? Im his protege!

I wouldnt call it "gang-turf" war, sounds kinda dramatic. Basically there are 2 main groups of business people who deal in York. Both are influencial people and have their fingers into lots of pies in the area. I do some work for one of them, the other "side" has a firm of security guards in their "pie"...

www.f1security.com

Some, but not all of the door staff are aware of the "behind the scenes" workings, and one took exception to my being in "his club" after what someone from our "side" had said to one of his "side".

Not exactly gang war fare, but i did receive a few anon death threats.

EDIT: Oh, and cloggsy... you dont REALLY want to know what the mess is....

Yes yes.

In reality we all full well know that Peter spent about 30 hours of his weekend furiously working on his extremely unreliable Ducati, praying it will get him through the week. (And this time he is arc-welding all the engine mounting bolts closed, in an attempt to have his 16th engine not fall out when the lean angles get a bit deep.)

Lets just say at this point Peter knows more about Ducati internals than Mtr Squid knows about the SV.

Ahh. Death threats. Cycle a bike from lower Manhattan, into New Jersey at rush hour, and not recieve death threats, then I'm interested.

So, go on then, how exactly did these death threats arrive. Stapled to the horses head, right?
