I agree with the current system for bikes, but new car drivers shouldn't be able to drive big cars for a year either. Surely they should be on a graded licence too?

Default !..

A mate of mine who is a bit of a 'boy racer' who to be honest has never grown up (currently drives an Evo) strangely also agrees with young car drivers having 'stepped' access to larger machinery

(I told him of the 'pending' bike test restrictions, which he also thinks is good )

...Oh and just to confirm, I currently manage just short of 4 Mississippis from the lights to 60. who needs electronics!

thank you people!
nice to see some can think this way....supprising a car driver can too!

but back to the point!
0-60!!!!!
i seen the book time of 3.2!
and i dont think it far off.....im about 12 stone and if i wanna launch it proper i do it from second gear!
plenty of torque and so depending on final gear ratio can reach 60 without a gear change!
even with a change to third i think its close enough!

That's my POV.

I agree with the current bike system. I know if I'd gotten a full power SV at age 17, I'd be dead or crippled by now. I know there are exceptions, but most 17 year olds aren't responsible enough for stupidly quick machines.

Very fair statement to make

I reckon the restricted licences are a good idea for bike but wouldn't be so necessary for cars.

IMO you need a lot more skill to ride a half powerful bike on the road than you do to drive any realistically insurable modern car. Far enough young drivers shouldn't be getting in Ferrari but from personal experience and observation of others many of the accidents that my friends were involved in may have been avoided had they been in a more modern car with electronics such as traction control and abs.

Cost restricts most young car drivers from driving fast cars
