Until I read the rest of the sentence, I was about to suggest that buying rubber gloves for someone who has called you a pervert for buying them "feminine" underwear was probably a bad move.

I've never been particularly uncomfortable being in women's underwear sections of shops personally. I don't drool over the mannequins, but I don't stare at the floor, either.
