Ah, the old "uses alot of oil"
Approx 1 litre per 2000 miles on average is not alot of oil for an engine that is designed to use it to lubricate the rotors above certain rpms.(of which there are 9500)

anyways £5 of oil per 2000 miles is nowt compared to the cost of 2000 miles of fuel: £400.

Yes, my ST suffers from the fuel problem... Some say they can get 30mpg on a motorway, I reckon that they are obviously not tuned in to that engine note... I meant you just HAVE to drive at over 5k so you can listen to that induction noise....

Who needs a stereo with an engine like that ?

We did, (Norton Commander I think, plus possible a couple of other variants, Police bike rings a bell). I think though, that with todays focus on racing, and the trouble with agreeing what capacity a rotary engine counts as, there probably won't be any "production" bikes, maybe a short run special or two may rear it's ugly head though.

There was the Suzuki RE5, which was a rotary - they come up every now and again on fleabay etc.

Mazda own all the patents for rotaries now - and they don't make bikes.

No rotaries in car racing either really because of the 'how to calculate the engine size' to compare to piston engines. I think x1.6 was the last calculation. So the 1.3 rx8 was competing against 2 llitre bmw/hondas in the recent Britcars series.

Rotaries in racing tends to go
1st season.....come nowhere
2nd season....get competitive
3rd season.... win everything
4th season..... banned/regulated out of competitiveness

Mazda won Le Mans 24hrs in 1991 with one and then guess what happened?......yep, banned.

The Nortons (haslam etc) in the british racing series of yesteryear were totally taking the p1ss. I appear to have 50 more horses than the rest of the field, coming through!

As for the ST/RX8/ civic type R/ scoobies/mitsi. People who bang on a bout the mpg are really missing the point. Drive 'em, enjoy 'em......and keep a diesel for the long dull trips.

Oh don't get me wrong, my ST may be thirsty but I enjoy every litre . I'd rather enjoy getting from A to B and it cost a bit more than getting bored out of my skull and it taking 20 minutes longer....

totally agree.

'official' mpg combined for the rx8 is 26.

Closest I ever got was 25 when I was trying to drive sloooooooowly on a motorway (65mph) for a few hours

Never again.
