It would have been a relatively cheap year for me (feeling crappy combined with too much rain this summer for this little wimp to be out )...

... but then I went and bought the Varadero and began commuting again.

'Bout £3k all in I reckon.

About -£3000! It has cost me around £2000, but I have gotten about £5000 to pay for it from work, so it has made me about £3K 'profit'. Of course, there are additional, indirect costs I've incurred like re-roofing my garage (which I wouldn't have bothered doing if I didn't have a bike), my time spent on the garage/servicing the bike, etc. Even factoring in the most tangental and tenuous costs though, I would still have made a slight profit on it (not to mention the extra value to my house the improved garage has added, new tools I'd have, etc.)

Not a bad deal, considering I'd happily pay £3-4K a year for biking if it wasn't subsidised by work...

"Car" allowance of £3700. I also make about 9p per mile on all business miles (of which I have quite a lot) as I get paid 24p per mile. About 10p per mile on fuel, 5p on tyres an consumables.

i had it quite cheap compared to most people here:

Bought SV: £1500 (not much more depreciation as it a 2000 model)
Insurance: £289 (3PTF)
Restricting: £225
Servicing: £190 (at suzuki dealer - Cheap labour rates in the winter and southwest England) including carb balancing, valves, plugs, all filters, coolant, brake fluid etc.
Fuel: About £150, only done about 1000miles this year.
Dainese Jacket: £225

Total excluding bike purchase: £1079

Total including bike purchase: £2579

I am only 19 so I am outstanded how people are paying nearly £1000 for insurance - are you living in dodgy areas?

Where do you live, do have an alarm do you put ur bike in garage? London and the south east can be mega expenisve.....also what u do for a job effects insurance cost as well. Would be intesrting to see how much effect it has on insurance cost on what you do for work....

Good point about your job affecting insurance costs (I think that I'm in a cheaper profession as a scientist?); but NCB is the difficult one as this is my first year back in the saddle and they wouldn't take car NCB's into account

So, with a nod to others that have also mentioned 'er indoors would have a fit if she knew how much it all cost, my annual bill would be:

SV650Sport plus alarm 4100
Insurance 250 (at least I'm 'older'!)
Arai 250
jacket 300
draggin jeans 100
scottoiler 65
fenda extenda 15
fuel oval 135
boots 25 (bargain bin!)
chain and locks 100
service 130
petrol 250
assorted extras (oh, tax!) 200

Hmm, nearly 6 grand

But worth every penny for the grin factor

It is going to be difficult this year tho' with two cars to keep going as well; something might have to give, as long as it's not the bike

Brand new K7 GSXR 750 - £7500
Brand new K7 SV 650 - £4500
K1 GSXR 600 race bike - £1800
Insurance - £900
Mods + Tyres - £1000

So only £15700

Bargin. Planning on spending f-all this year.

Oh and Helmet + leathers = £500 extra. Isle of man TT another £700

Don't really care how much is costs ( not that I'm loaded with cash , infact I'm skint ) , but it keeps me sain , lets me escape from pressures from work etc and really enjoy the time on my own , with my own thoughts etc. Also love listening to Pink Floyd & Led Zep on the bike .

Cheers Steve
