yes I get very depressed when I have to come to work. Horrible feeling. Worse is that its going to be 16 months before I get out of it.

I hated my last job which was trying to teach delinquent teenagers. They didn't want to be there, didn't want to learn anything, and spent most of the time being disputive, abusive and mostly stoned, so I resigned and at the age of 45 decided to retire. My boss at the time was trying to tell me what lovely lads they all were really, but I never saw any indication of that from the vast majority of them. When I left I told the boss that another week and I would have ended up inside for a serious assault against at least two or three of them
Nowadays I do a bit of bike servicing and repair, housework, and generally taking it easy. I don't claim a penny from the state, and cba to start my bike repair business properly because I don't advertise or do work for anyone I don't know personally. Life is good - I have enough money in the bank to see me through a few years of doing nothing at all if I wish and my blood pressure has returned to a safe level. There's no stress at all, and the only things that upset me now are the odd broken bolt or sticky throttle cable. |

Sometimes I am tempted to go back and work for someone else, simply because it is easier and the money is in me bank account at the end of the month whether I "earn" it or not.....but I know me, will end up trying (and failing) to do the job properly when it is not actually possible......and going mad trying - like others on this thread.
I have several of those T-shirts from years gone by........and the stories I could tell ![]() PS just went back to the Bike Dealer (got a s/h 2003 ZZ1200 for sale I had a looksee over last week).....to chat about service history etc and suss out how much movement in the price their is - no decision to buy at the moment, but tempted...............Closed Saturday afternoon! |

454697819 - Are you not in the same industry as me, building services engineer?
I had the worst time with my previous employer, stayed with them for a total of 8 months, working so many god damn hours and not getting any overtime. I put in 70-80 hours weeks easy which, for a graduate, is just silly. The manager at the time had absolutely no idea how long the requests he made actually look to carry out and as such, I was working every weekend, albeit using building simulation software so a lot of it was sitting around, waiting to get some results. Took one trip back home (scotland) and came back to the office at 8pm, the day before I was due back to check up on emails. And it just twigged, life isn't supposed to be like this, this is at a time when I should really be travelling, enjoying life to the full etc. So I wrote out a resignation letter and sat it on his desk. Went home, turned my alarm off, turned my phone off and went to sleep. I'm still in the same line of work now as a design engineer but work with fantastic people who I get along with really well. And I go home at 5pm too! Woohoo!! |

I just want to work somewhere, where I will not be beaten up, verbally abused and treated with contempt. I thought Education was the place to make a difference, but I am leaving feeling very disillusioned. ![]() |

I left mine when it got like that... Though I stayed in the company. I realised I was hanging on just out of bloody-mindedness, because I hated my boss and I was enjoying making her life a misery, but that's no way to spend your days. Once I realised that, I would honestly have left and done anything else, didn't matter what. I'm quite bad for this, things need to be pretty terrible before I'll sort myself out.
