Absolutely. He wanted to have things like an on site caterer and more toilets.......not anything controversial to make it easier for everyone and those thoughts were echoed by everyone and something Messie and the other organisers knew about and did stellar work to make the best of, resulting in a fab weekend for all involved.

Indeed GG he pm'd me about it, so I have no conerns there.

AR10 wiil be great, and it will become the event that people want it to be, in terms of remembering Hovis. As Quiff said so well, people's grief and thoughts will develop, mellow and change over the coming months, and I know GG that you will work with and accomodate them all.

I don't believe that time heals everything, but I do believe that it sorts things out.

as per Cheryls latest post re locking threads n stuff..

Thanks guys for the pm's etc and agreement.

I think, like Cheryl, it is time we had maybe the RIP thread and one megathread open only now and then funerla info posted in the funeral thread then the org can return to some sense of normality ..
I'd be much happier if a Mod would kindly go to the effort of deleting/moving the derails from this thread and leaving the thread open to even be bumped nearer the time.
I think it was a fantastic OP about the AR that was unfortunately derailed many times about the funeral.
What Hovis was organising was a fantastic AR, not his own Wake. I for one am looking forward to a fantastic AR with obviously some memorial to Hovis, not the other way around - a Memorial to Hovis with a rideout attached. The org has to remain more important than Hovis.
I take comfort in the fact that that is how I interpret Gruntygiggles reply as to what her intentions are.

Edit: Quiff do you want me to remove your quote?

I think we can probably leave most if not all threads open in hindsight, just keep them clean and leave banter to the Megathread. That way, they do remain open as I'm sure we'll all think of new memories from time to time and have new and justifiable things to say.

Yes Stu.....I've still got all my PMs and emails from Hovis re the AR and I don't intend changing anything, just doing a few little things that will mean something to all of us, but not take over the weekend. Both to keep it a happy event and not ostracize any new members.

For me, Quiff nailed it.

Hovis meant something different to everyone. And everyone will do their thing, hopefully, at the appropriate time.

The funeral is for Hovis' family more than anyone else who will be there. Its pretty clear no one is going to be irreverent there, and everyone has a clear idea of what is expected of them.

Equally, moving forward, it seems pretty clear that although there will be something for Hovis at next year's AR the organisers are aware of the need to accommodate those that perhaps don't have the same affinity for him. And especially for new members who will be dipping their toes in for the first time.

Short of splitting hairs, semantics or being pedantic I'd say there's nowt to worry about other than some may disagree with some plans, and that will always happen anyway.

another point- the village where he was from is really a tiny tiny village.. I wont name it.. but when you look it up it has like a shop a post office and a pub and a tiny church.. so everyone knows everyone.. and it is small.. all the more reason to have respect and decorum if we arrive on bikes .. considering the way he lost his life.

of course as Mogs said Mrs F may yet retract the bike idea , which his her prerogative, in which case I will go in the car.
