Thanks again Badger, makes perfect sense.

I'll measure it and assume 1/2mm below the size so it doesn't sit too tight nor loose as you said, I think that should be okay.

Half a Millimetre can be too tight mate , just depends on the size of the clip , it should spring open enough to slide over the shaft without bending the clip and losing it`s springiness . If it is the correct one you should be able to open it with circlip pliers , slide it on and drop it into the groove in one motion without force . it should then be tight enough on the shaft to grip and should only move if pushed at with a small screwdriver .

Used a 10mm on there, its on fine, got my dad to do it.

As it looks, the circlip is used to ensure that the gear lever doesn't slide off rather than the moment of it?

Yep thats it Thanks for your help badger, again!

Should be all back on the road this week, quick recovery! Get the scratched parts fixed in due course over the winter as they're not urgent.

Just wait for the crash bungs to arrive then I'll give it a ride.

Everything else is just cosmetics now which I'll pick up second hand / new bits with my favourite friend ebay over the coming months.

Needs a service and a back tyre before long so that'll tell whether any mechanical damage has been done.
