But really how much difference does it make? Do you use it hard? SV's can reliably do a lot of miles.

Yeah too right.
A new crank according to robinsons for a K3 is £529.33. Plus bearings, possibly rods, gaskets, LOTS of expensive labour. See the problem...

Like the one I had, as YC stated earlier they are weak where they're cross drilled, I'll take his word for it as it lets me off the hook of being an idiot (where my wife's concerned at least as shes convinced I killed it).So with another k3 lump in the bike this thread is starting to convince me that I really need to rebuild my old engine with a stronger crank and big bore kit

Yup the bores seem pretty well lubed.
Early K3's also had rod issues. The curvy crank breaks on the starter gear drilling too. There's a pic on here somewhere of a guy saying "oil leak" when there's a hole punched in the front of the case!
