I'm being pedantic, but you missed out dual carriageways. Common mistake.

Doesnt matter where the sign is - and drivers that just react to a speed change should be off the road. To use your examples So often you come out of a village and theres a NSL sign, 1) closely followed by a tight and difficult bend, Which will be marked with a sign telling you thus - and probably warning chevrons 2) often with a farm entrance, also marked with signs. 3) cattle poo across the raod, Thats a variable hazard so cant be sign-posted for. 4) every type of hazard imaginable. The last one is the one that proves your argument wrong. You have to drive/ride anticipating that circumstances will change and you will have to take action - if you cant see the exit of a corner than slow down for example. Its all down to drivers to make the right decision - if you enter an NSL then go off the next corner that is a bit tighter than you thought at 60mph and then try and say it was the Councils fault for not putting the sign half a mile down the road, hence forcing people to do that corner at 30 (when it might be safe at 40-50). then you probably shouldn't be on the road. Oh and yeah, it does seem to be one of those days that we are butting heads Ed - as you know, nothing personal ![]()

![]() Also not ALL dual carriage ways are 70 - so the sweeping statement (another speciality of mine) doesnt really work if you add them :P So there ![]()

Drive to the condition of the road, not the speed limit.
Its not a difficult concept, perhaps they (the road authorities) should teach that somewhere! Reducing the limit will just cause a greater difference between people driving to limits and those that drive to conditions. All the evidence prior to 'Safety' Camera introduction points to the drivers who slightly exceed set speed limits to have less accidents than those that never exceeded the speed limit. |
