0 mph crash on pushbike before tens of people after being unable to unclip shoe from SPDs: been there, done that, felt stupid. In my defense, I had been riding through mud the day before, so the SPDs were locked solid (because I forgot to clean them ). Had to sit on the ground and remove shoes (with bike attached) from feet to be able to unclip said shoes.

Running out of fuel: been there, done that, felt even more stupid. First outing on my SR250 Classic, doing a short 2 or 3 mile test run, 6 months after passing my test, owner says to me "careful, she's done a few miles with that tank, might not be much more left in it", "oh, don't worry, it's just a short ride". Famous last words, Murphy's Law, bike coughed and spluttered to death right at the farthest point from home. Had to push it up a hill, thinking "nah, can't be it, there must be something wrong with it", so tried to bump start it. After much pulling I decided to call said owner, who showed up with some petrol in a bottle. Petrol in, bike starts first thing.

Drop bike on forecourt of petrol pump. Been there, done that, didn't remove my helmet. It was with said SR, the sidestand didn't come out properly, so as I lean bike on it she starts to lean like an 800cc GP machine, except there's no gyro force to pull her up again and my left boot is standing on some diesel. Bike slowly moving to the ground, John Hopkins style, fortunately I'm a bit taller than said SR so all I had to do was a leg split (with the help from said diesel spill) and try to let her down as gently as I could. One broken topbox (oops, I've said it ) rail and some get-bike-vertical-again effort later and we were good to go.

And that's it for my embarrassing biking moments, thank you very much.

Another one of mine!

Feb 2005, we had our bike booked in for a 15,000 mile service down at JHS Racing. We set off from home at 7am, and it was flipping cold, but apart from that, not too bad. We were making good time down the Fosse Way, but just the other side of Bourton on the Water we started to run into snow. We got to the roundabout where the A40 crosses the Fosse, looked at the hill heading down towards Cirencester which was a sheet of packed ice and snow, and decided discretion was the better part of valour. Hoping that conditions would clear enough for us to be able to carry on once more traffic started using the road, we pulled off onto the grass at the side of the roundabout.................and waited.

One hour later, we were still waiting. We'd had a nice chat with a couple of coppers who'd turned up after a car hit a lamp post, told half a dozen cagers who'd stopped to see if we were ok that no, we hadn't had an accident, we were just waiting( nice that they stopped though. Guess ALL cagers aren't that bad)but I was starting to suffer. Not from the cold, I was well geared up..................but I was desperate for a pee!

Finally it got to the stage where I couldn't hold on any longer. Just along the verge from where we were parked up there was a ditch, and I jumped down into it. I should have checked if it was full of water first, I guess, but by that time I wasn't thinking too clearly. Luckily, it was dry! I squatted down, did what was neccessary, and then stood back up again. It was only as I turned to face the road that I realised that the bank on the road side was MUCH lower than the bank I'd scrambled down to get into the ditch in the first place, and my tattoo-ed a55 had been clearly visible to every car driver that had just driven past

Not long after that, the road was clear enough for us to continue, and we carried on to Bristol.
