#2 The oncoming pedestrians (row of about 5 yoofs) saw me coming towards them on the path (it was one of those shared footpaths and cycle thingys) as tehy were in a mob, they were taking up the whole path, but they refused to move out of the way to let me nicely through - so I stood up on the peddles and cycled up to 'ramming speed' ... I narrowly avoided 'collecting' one of the little sh1ts as I torpedoed my way through ...

Hmmm, did we read of something similar and somebody getting killed as a result lately.

I hope that there were no comments posted by yourself saying that the cyclist should have given way to the girl who ended up dead.

Yes, but I dont believe the circumstances of that accident have been correctly reported.

I believe there is some evidence to suggest that the impact occured in the road and the cyclist was riding in the road and the girl crossed in front of him and then realised her mistake and she didnt have time to step back onto the pavement before she was hit. But I do also believe from what I read that the cyclist had time to take avoiding action and chose not to and rode his bike directly at the girl aiming for a small gap between her and kerb that then she tried to step back onto.

That looks to be the case.. it was also reported that the girl had been drinking so perhaps her judgement was impaired.

Its a difficult thing to comment on as the press havent published all the facts or the police havent released them.

Well I can say that Rhiannon was most definately not a 'boozed up yoof' and certainly didn't have an 'attitude'.
I wouldn't have called her friends 'yoofs' either, though I didn't know any of those with her a the time of the incident, I had met her... she went to the same Uni as me and was on the National Diploma course. Part of my Degree course was to supervise both her and her peers for their stable management sessions, and I found her to be a very personable, responsible and level headed young woman.

Put your hand up if you never indulged in a bit of underage drinking? Hmm. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone eh.

As bikers we often complain about being tarred with the same brush as those irresponsible few. So perhaps we should be that little it more broad minded when it comes to tarring others ourselves...

... not all teenagers are 'yoofs'...

... not all cyclists are ignorant of the lawful use of the road...

... however, if someone has personal experience of people living down to their stereotype fair enough.

In the case of Rhiannon you don't, so please refrain from drawing flawed conclusions.

To close I feel that this thread has now run it's course. Who wins or loses doesn't matter, you can decide that for yourselves and keep it to yourselves. This has gone from Idle Banter to Idle-circular-debate and no longer serves a purpose.
If anyone genuinely feels they have something new and constructive to add - pm me, and if it is the case I'll open it back up again.
