Good point about the two stop lines. Normally red light cameras take two photos, the first should show the vehicle on the line, the second just after. The reason is that they have to show that part of your vehicle crossed the line after the light went red. If for example you go past the line on green then get held in traffic whilst the lights go to red, it is still OK to carry on across the junction. Looking at your photos the first appears to show you on the second stop line, the one for the cycles, so it could be argued that they cannot show you crossing the other stop line after the light went red. Unfortunately they might argue that the actual stop line for the junction is the second one, so you couldn't be done for crossing the first one into the bike area. Might be worth checking this with them though and also finding out which line the camera is callibrated to. It would also be worth checking if there is a speed recorded anywhere in the system.
On the other point, the one about your points, I'm a little confused by your explanation. If you had forgotten to send off your test certificate and they had revoked your licence then you would have been done for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, which is normally 3-4 points. Your insurance should still have been valid as you "had held" a licence, although there would have been a good chance that once the insurance company found out about your licence they would have either withdrawn it or increased the premium. It's pretty exceptional for them to revoke it at inception and thus deny you the compulsary cover at the time you were stopped. As a matter of interest have you had to sit a test again or have they now found your licence? |

Regarding you licence Dappa, are you still running on a provisional (green) photo licence?

hi red.....t'was 6 points my friend....driving other than in accordance with a license and without valid insurance, not got paper part on me so couldt tell u the codes....
few notes on the camera as said in letter i recieved... Speed= 18.9 mph time into red= 1.4 seconds so if my calculations are right (convert mph to kilometers ph, devide by 60 mins, devide by 60 seconds and times by a thousand) i was about 11metres further back than the picture shows when the light went red......which means i totally disregarded a red light and isnt like me at all.....but doesnt look like i can fight it.... DD....I have a full unrestricted motorbike license now (passed DA in May) so have the pink card showing catagories A,B,B1,f,k,p.... however on my paper part (that is at home) i think it mentions only provisional on B and B1 etc. im going to question them today why they cant provide a picture of me crossing the line but after that think ill just have to take the 3 points and the fine to be fair ![]() |

Nah... just messing with you, fight if you can but remember there may come a moment when admitting your fault might be the best option. |

Hi Dappa, inclined to think you are pretty well bang to rights on the red light, unless you can find a technicality....
Going back to your licence look at the dates on the back of the pink card. If that shows B then I'm pretty sure the dates are the dates you passed your test and you have a full licence for a car. Any provisional entitlements are usually only listed on the paper counterpart... You wouldn't be the first person to have a category "drop" off their licence but it's normally able to be sorted provided you can remember where you took your test and roughly when. |
