I'd also like to this. I'd like to see the whole telephone useage thing taken away from the cops and given to those who are most at risk from its consequences...us bikers. We should e allowed to decided and if required be allowed to confiscate said phone, hand it in to the local nick and the driver can go there and explain why it was taken away from him and why he deserves to get it back

Well thats the daft thing, you cant use a phone while driving, my radios of any kind you can ie police, cabbies.

Im not sure why though my copper mates have never really stated, apart from we dont make the law, which is true.

Seriously though, I've always put the danger not down to a mobile phone but the actions and decisions of the driver. Doesnt matter if its a moby, a lipstick, adjusting a radio, generally fiddling around with anything in particular. If you arent paying proper attention then you introduce risk.

I did hear of a story about i biker doing this, something like got cut up and caught the car at a petrol sation, grabs the phone lobs it no to the roof of the station. Cops that watched the cars actions appeared of the biker to leave quick, before he faced charges i guess. Cops stayed with the car, prob for a little chat.
I think that came from my riding instructor. Not sure it its a myth tho

Any how im up for it

TBH, and this is in my own totally personal opinion, the main reason for the increased fine and points for use of mobile telephone was probably brought about by the increased number of, particularly yuong, inexperienced drivers, texting whilst driving.

Both text and having a conversation are covered under the same legislation so don't really get defined but I personally think texting and driving is the bigger issue.

I am not saying that having a conversation on the 'phone isn't distracting, but texting is far more distracting.

Drving slowly on a mobile phone isnt so bad, I don't really get too wound up about it but I am cautious when filtering if I notice a driver with a phone to their ear.

What always winds me up is people texting or whatever on their mobiles. They arn't paying ANY attention to ANYthing! They should get a ticket no matter what
